Afterword - The Youth Corridor

Most new concepts struggle to see the light of day, until some moment when knowledge and interest begin to fuel one another and the idea takes on a life of its own. Then, everything seems so simple and self why it took so long to reach this point. The idea of the Youth Corridor is exactly such a situation. The information was there, the interest was there, but we never put it all together. The purpose of this book is to do just that: condense those bits of information floating about us into an organized, understandable program for controlling aging and maintaining youthful good looks throughout adult life.

The fund of knowledge on aging has enlarged proportionally to our increased life span. Interest in maintaining youthful good looks throughout these expanded years of strength and productivity has run a parallel course. Fueled by fact and fiction, our knowledge has accelerated rapidly and directly through the last decade. I have both participated in and observed this regularly from my perch as a plastic surgeon with an active Manhattan practice, and from the very outset of my professional life I have been consumed by the subject of facial aging. Thousands of facelifts later I am convinced the tools exist to allow us to deal with the problem in a wholly more appropriate and effective manner. My philosophy, one that has not been universally shared, advocates preventing wrinkles, rather than curing them, and smaller procedures and earlier surgery for generally younger patients, in order to maintain one's appearance throughout the adult years in what I call the Youth Corridor.

Recent advances in biochemistry and new operative techniques have delivered us to a point where our system can forestall, if not prevent, the changes of aging, and push back the need for surgery. We can best provide this service for those who are lucky enough to start caring for themselves before the mirror screams out warnings. For others, we will reset the clock to a new starting point, and help control the future, and in all cases, help you help yourself. This program offers the first organized system incorporating all the latest knowledge to help you live agelessly in the Youth Corridor.

Since the first incarnation of this book appeared in 1997 it has become something of a bible for those interested in prevention, maintainence, and smaller, less invasive procedures. In the ensuing five yesrs a lot has changed, and I have tried to incorporate the most up to date information into this edition. This volume of The Youth Corridor is not available in book stores. It is my wish to impart the latest, most up to date and honest information to you, and it is my pleasure to offer it free of charge.
