Cheek implants are anatomically shaped to mimic the natural cheekbone, and are made of silicone. They are inserted through a facelift incision, when that is appropriate, or via a lower eyelid incision. It is also possible to insert them through the mouth. The implants are anchored with sutures. A tape dressing may be applied.
Dr. Imber’s Tips!
We rarely insert cheek implants anymore. The procedure has been replaced by a Fat Transfer. While an implant remains an option and can produce an excellent look, Fat Transfer is my preferred method. It is easy to perform, has little to no down time, and achieves a more natural look with a less invasive, safer procedure.
Cheekbone augmentation with fat transfer not only gives that high youthful high cheekbone, angular look, it also fills in and tightens facial skin, reducing jowls and sagging.
Gerald Imber, MD
Whether the use of silicone implant or fat transfer, the procedure results in a more prominent lift and is the hallmark of beauty.
Your Cheek Implants will be performed in Dr. Imber‘s Surgery center located in NYC.
Recently, I have most often been enhancing the cheek area with fat transfers. I have found this relative non-invasive Cheek Implants procedure very successful, easy to perform, and long lasting.
Cheek Enhancement FAQ’s
What is a Cheek Enhancement?
Higher cheekbones give more angularity to the face, and produce an element of a lift. There are two surgical options to enhance the cheeks, including a fat transfer and cheek implant. We rarely insert cheek implants anymore. The procedure has been replaced by a Fat Transfer. During a Fat Transfer to cheeks, we remove a small amount of fat from one body area and inject it to another area that needs to be filled in.
What are the goals of a Cheek Enhancement?
Loss of volume in our face causes skin to become lax and affects the angularity of the face. Cheekbone augmentation with fat transfer gives that high youthful cheekbone an angular look, it also fills in and tightens facial skin, reducing jowls and sagging.
What type of anesthesia will I receive?
This procedure can be performed under local anesthesia with light sedation.
How long will recovery take?
Recovery is rapid. There may be swelling for a day or two but most recover quickly.
Are there any non-invasive alternatives?
I also perform cheek augmentations using commercial filler. This is a quick in-office procedure and doesn’t require anesthesia. We often numb the area being injected and you can expect to be in my office for 30-45 minutes. Using filler is a great way to see what a cheek enhancement would look like if you aren’t ready for a more permanent option like Fat Transfer.
Why do I need a board certified plastic surgeon?
A board certified plastic surgeon holds the highest levels of education and training needed to deliver the best results. This qualification is not easy to achieve, so by using a board-certified plastic surgeon, you also know they meet the standards of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
Will there be any scarring?
No there won’t be any scarring with a fat transfer.
How much does a Cheek Enhancement cost?
Any question you have regarding procedure costs can be discussed during your consultation at Dr. Imber’s office.
He is very thorough, meticulous, detail oriented and you cannot negotiate services or anything with him. It’s his way or the highway. I had a lot of work done years ago long before plastic surgery was so common. My daughter went to him last year for lipo and he is exactly as thorough and precise as he was then. If you are a Botox junkie looking for quick fixes on the cheap, he probably won’t be right for you. His work is very subtle, understated, natural and undetectable.
