Are your under eye bags bothering you?

If the bags under your eyes are disturbing you, there are surgical solutions to get rid of them. One is for those who are younger and one is for those that are older encountering more than just under eye bags.

If you are dealing with them, are young and skin is tight we do a transconjunctival blepharoplasty. We make an incision inside of the eyelids, the fat pops out, we remove it and the bags are gone and there are no visible external scars. If there is any excess skin, this surgical procedure for under eye bags does not get rid of it.

If under eye bags are more severe there are more concerns in the area besides the under eye bag, meaning there is excess skin, discoloration, and bags, then a lower lid blepharoplasty may be more appropriate. This is a more extensive surgery and can improve a variety of aging concerns related to under eye.

What is a Transconjunctival Blepharoplasty?

This operation is usually restricted to young adults. It treats puffy, baggy lower eyelids in people without loose skin or wrinkles. That eliminates all but those in their twenties or thirties who have suffered through people saying “You look tired. Is anything wrong?” There is nothing wrong but more often than not you have inherited excess fat beneath the muscle of your lower lids and it is a family trait.

Subjunctival or transconjunctival blepharoplasty means that the actual surgery is done through the inner lining, the conjunctiva, of the eyelid and no visible, external skin incision is necessary. This surgical procedure is done under anesthesia. An incision is made in the eyelid of the lining in order to reach the fat pockets. After the fat is removed ointment can be applied to skin and healing is rapid and invisible.

What is a lower-lid blepharoplasty?

This surgical procedure is performed under anesthesia and can be combined with an upper blepharoplasty but it truly depends on the individuals’ needs. For this, the muscle beneath the skin is incised without being separated from the skin. The skin-and-muscle flap affords excellent access to the fat pockets and trough below. Sometimes we remove the fat but largely it is relocated into the trough, making the entire under-eye area smooth.

If you have noticed under eye bags and interested in improving the area, the best solution is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Imber to learn what surgical procedures you are a candidate for.
