What Are the Benefits of a Cheek and Chin Augmentation?

Cheekbones are part of the definition of beauty. It is the angularity that makes a face beautiful or handsome. Strong cheekbones and a strong chin and you can forget about everything else. As you age, collagen is depleted causing the cheekbones to lose shape, ultimately affecting the facial structure. Replenishing this fat loss in the cheeks and chin can help instantly restore a youthful appearance.

Over the years there have been a lot of ways to accentuate the cheekbones. Cheek implants were primarily used to lift the area but no matter what they slipped and had to be replaced. For the last decade and a half Fat Transfers have been used to enhance cheekbones and chin. They have completely changed the landscape.

That being said, there are 2 ways to augment cheekbones and chin. We can do it with a Fat Transfer, which is a surgical procedure and longer lasting option. A Fat Transfer to build up cheekbones and augment chin looks natural because we are using your own fat. This is a surgical procedure and performed under anesthesia.

Another option is to augment the cheekbones and chin using Dermal Filler. This can be done as an outpatient and is a quick fix. Using filler is a good way to determine if a cheek and chin augmentation is for you.

What is a Fat Transfer?

Autologous fat transfer is the medical term for fat grafting. The procedure utilizes your own fat as filler. This minimally invasive procedure fills in lines and folds, builds up cheekbones and chin, and eliminates facial depressions. Fat is the perfect solution to replace exactly what has been lost. This is performed under anesthesia. The Fat is taken from a donor site on your body and injected into your face to build up cheekbones and chin. Some 35% of the transferred fat remains in place as a permanent natural filler.

What is Filler?

Dermal fillers are mostly Hyaluronic Acid and are used to fill in facial folds and wrinkles. Often the same substance can be used to enlarge and enhance cheekbones, plumping up lips and softening lip lines. Fillers are a quick fix and filler appointments are performed on an out-patient basis. Although there is some difference between types and brands, they are mostly hyaluronic acid, mostly do their job, and mostly last approximately 6 -12 months.

To determine if you are a candidate for a cheekbone or chin augmentation, it’s best to schedule a consultation with Dr. Imber. During your consultation, Dr. Imber will analyze the area, discuss your goals and determine the best procedures for you.
