Male Breast Reduction
Dr. Gerald Imber is a skilled and experienced plastic surgeon who is dedicated to providing the best male breast reduction results New York City has to offer. This surgical procedure addresses gynecomastia, a condition that causes the overdevelopment of the male breasts. This creates the appearance of “man boobs.” Male breast reduction surgery can involve the use of liposuction, surgical excision, or a combination of both. During your consultation, Dr. Imber will perform an examination of the breasts to determine which surgical approach is appropriate.
Male breast reduction Goals
The goal of a male breast reduction is to remove the excess fat accumulation in the chest area to give the chest a flatter, smoother, and more masculine appearance. This can improve self-confidence and lifestyle for many.
Male breast reduction Candidate
Men who are experiencing excess fat within the breast area can be a candidate for this surgery. Many factors can contribute to causing Gynecomastia and Dr. Imber will discuss all variables during your consultation.
What to Expect During Your Male breast reduction
Dr. Imber and nurses will review all surgical details prior to your appointment. Generally, Dr. Imber will make incisions along the areolae or along the bottom of the breasts to remove excess glandular tissue. The length of the incisions will be based on the severity of the gynecomastia. Liposuction may be used during the process to remove any excess fat from the area.
Recovering From Your Male breast reduction
Most patients can expect to feel sore for several days, but pain can be managed with medication. If surgical excision of the breast tissue is involved, the recovery process will take some time. Patients may need to wait a week or so before they are able to resume their normal activities. Our nurses will review all recovery guidelines with you.

What Is Gynecomastia?
Gynecomastia is a condition that causes the overdevelopment of the male breasts. Gynecomastia is typically a benign issue that is not life-threatening, but can cause self-image issues.
What Causes Gynecomastia?
Gynecomastia is commonly caused by changes in hormone levels within the male body. It commonly occurs in males who are going through puberty which causes fluctuation in hormone levels, as well as aging males who are experiencing hormonal changes. Other potential causes of gynecomastia could be the use of certain medications, steroid use, drug use, certain types of cancers, and thyroid disorders.
How Long Will Recovery Take?
Patients may need to wait a week or so before they are able to resume their normal activities.
