Based in New York City
Both men and women with noticeable aging around the neck can benefit from a neck lift. A neck lift can help to rejuvenate the appearance of the neck by getting rid of loose and wrinkled skin. Dr. Gerald Imber is a highly skilled plastic surgeon who has performed numerous neck lift procedures through his career. He can provide you with the natural-looking results you need.
What Is a Neck Lift?
Neck lift is a procedure that is directed at laxity of the skin of the neck. Most patients find that they are focusing on the neck without realizing that loss of elasticity starts at the top and works its way down. Gravity doesn’t pick just the neck. However, sometimes the loose, wrinkled neck skin is out of proportion with other changes. The neck lift involves an incision behind the ear and along the hairline.
Dr. Imber’s Tips!
As one advances in years, a face and neck lift often become necessary. Less frequently, only the skin on the neck needs tightening. In these circumstances, an isolated neck lift is performed through incisions behind the ears. Remember a neck lift alone does nothing above the jaw line, so it’s often best to combine neck lift with some sort of face lift.

Neck Lift Procedure
The skin is lifted up entirely from ear to ear and tightened. Microsuction is performed at the same time. Neck lift usually requires an incision under the chin as well, to tighten the platysma muscle bands. The downside of the procedure is that the scar is in the hairline, and that laxity above the jaw is not corrected. Still, under proper circumstances it is a very useful operation. Most often a neck lift is combined with a face lift, and thought of as a single operation.
Neck Lift FAQ’s
What is a Neck Lift?
A Neck lift is a procedure that improves the laxity of the skin of the neck. Most patients find they are focusing on the neck without realizing that loss of elasticity starts at the top and works its way down. This surgical procedure can tighten and smooth out the skin in the area.
When a neck lift alone is performed the incisions are at the hairline behind the ear and into the crease where the ear meets the neck.
What are the benefits of a Neck Lift?
A neck lift can help rejuvenate the appearance of the neck by getting rid of loose and wrinkled skin. Right now, we are constantly looking down or at a screen without even realizing we are creating these creases in the neck area. Pair this with the natural progression of aging skin and your neck area can begin to look like a turkey.
Who is the best candidate for a Neck Lift?
It is best to schedule a consultation so we can discuss your personal goals. However, if you notice the skin around your neck is falling or very wrinkled, it may be time to discuss your treatment options.
It is important to know, I rarely perform a Neck Lift without a Face Lift because the two areas fit together like puzzle pieces. The Neck Lift targets just that area and nothing above the chin. It is critical to address the skin on the face and neck to ensure the most natural results.
What type of anesthesia will I receive?
Local Anesthesia with Sedation.
How long will recovery take?
You will be provided with a thorough list of post-operative instructions to help you through the recovery period. Most patients return to work in 10 days or less. Once the swelling has fully dissipated, your final results should be visible.
Are there any non-invasive alternatives?
Once your skin is already loose in the area, the only way to correct it is with surgery. There are less invasive options that I recommend as preventative and maintenance measures but nothing that will completely correct the issue like surgery.
Do I need any special garment or bindings?
Following your neck lift procedure, the neck will be bandaged and wrapped to manage swelling during the recovery period. Again, my team will provide you with everything you will need for surgery.
Why do I need a board certified plastic surgeon?
A board certified plastic surgeon holds the highest levels of education and training needed to deliver the best results. This qualification is not easy to achieve, so by using a board-certified plastic surgeon, you also know they meet the standards of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
Will there be any scarring?
The neck lift involves an incision behind the ear and along the hairline, and sometimes under the chin. Once healed, scars are almost invisible.
How much does a Neck Lift Cost?
The cost of a neck lift can vary. Any question you have regarding procedure cost and payment options can be addressed at Dr. Imber’s office during your neck lift consultation.
He is very thorough, meticulous, detail oriented and you cannot negotiate services or anything with him. It’s his way or the highway. I had a lot of work done years ago long before plastic surgery was so common. My daughter went to him last year for lipo and he is exactly as thorough and precise as he was then. If you are a Botox junkie looking for quick fixes on the cheap, he probably won’t be right for you. His work is very subtle, understated, natural and undetectable.
