Microsuction is an effective procedure but it does not replace a neck lift.
Patients are constantly on the search for less invasive procedures that can improve an aging neck. Microsuction is a great surgical procedure and is intended to remove small pockets of fat and by default it also tightens skin. It is a great option to correct a double chin or jowls but if you have loose skin on your neck, microsuction doesn’t do much but elevate the skin a little bit.
Microsuction is a term Dr. Imber developed to describe a form of liposuction using tiny specialized instruments to remove excess fat in facial areas. It is a very effective, minimally invasive technique that can improve areas like corners of the mouth, the jawline, hips, abdomen and double chin.
Microsuction is particularly effective to do two things. One to get rid of a double chin through a little incision down under your chin.
The other thing that it does quite well is get rid of early jowls. As soon as your skin and jowls begin to become visible to the point where your jawline isn’t clean, microsuction can be beneficial.
Microsuction immediately gets rid of that and you return to a clean jawline and no double chin. That’s what microsuction was devised for. It’s what it’s best for.
So back to the question, can microsuction replace a neck lift? Microsuction gets rid of the double chin area, gets rid of the jowls in the area, gets rid of the fat but it doesn’t get rid of the skin. So that it’s kind of a waste of effort to do microsuction for an aging neck. An aging neck needs a neck lift.
If you have noticed loose skin on your neck and you’re interested in improving it, it is best to schedule a consultation to determine what treatments you are a candidate for.
What is a neck lift?
A neck lift is a procedure that is directed at laxity of the skin of the neck. Most patients find that they are focusing on the neck without realizing that loss of elasticity starts at the top and works its way down. Gravity doesn’t just pick the neck. However, sometimes the loose, wrinkled neck skin is out of proportion with other changes. The neck lift involves an incision behind the ear and along the hairline.
