The Benefits of Preventative Botox

The best way to treat a wrinkle is to prevent it and with Botox this is possible. People as young as their early twenties sometimes show signs of smile lines and frown lines, and using small amounts of Botox in these areas can stop the wrinkles before they form.

A bit about Botox. Botox is a neurotoxin and a FDA- approved treatment that temporarily smooths out frown lines and wrinkles caused by the action of the muscles of the facial expression. After it is injected, the full effect is seen in 48 hours and, depending on the individual, can begin to wear off in about 4-6 months.

If you are unsure about Botox, I’ve listed two points to consider that can help you determine if it’s right for you. Always remember, if early signs of fine lines are left untreated, they will shortly become deep, permanent facial lines. The best decision is to seek out help from a board-certified plastic surgeon who you trust.

  1. Genetics
Look at your mother and/or father to see if they have wrinkles and ask them when they began. Genetics plays a large role in how you age so using your family as a guide for how your older self may look can be helpful.
  2. Look in the mirror
Do you see the beginning of smile or squint lines by your eyes, vertical furrows between the eyebrows or faint horizontal forehead lines? If yes, then it is time to schedule an appointment at my practice.
