My patients always ask me about the price comparison between a Fat Transfer and Filler.
First off, let’s discuss what fat transfer and fillers are used for. As we age, we lose volume in our face that causes the face to lose its structure. Cheekbones are not as prominent, nasolabial folds begin to form. Essentially, the facial volume that was lost causes gravity to take hold and pull everything down. Filler or a Fat Transfer can be used to replace this volume loss, and restore the youthfulness that was lost.
So, circling back to the initial discussion about price comparison between Fat Transfer and Filler. We need to approach this in a different way. A Fat Transfer is better than Filler. Period. End of story. But, a fat transfer is not as quick or as simple as fillers. Initially fillers are less expensive when compared to a fat transfer but over the course of a couple of years the prices become almost the same. However, at year 2 the fat looks better and more natural than filler. It also lasts forever. The fillers are gone. Economically, in the long run a fat transfer is far, far better. Economically in the short run it can be more expensive.
What is a Fat Transfer?
Fat transfer refers to the process of transferring living fat cells from a donor area to another area that needs filling, or volume augmentation, on the same person. Some 35% of the transferred fat remains in place as a permanent natural filler. A fat transfer is the best of all available fillers. With aging, we all lose and redistribute fat padding and facial volume. Autologous fat is invaluable for volume restoration, lifting and rejuvenating the face.
What are fillers?
Fillers are sterile, injectable compounds used to fill in facial folds and wrinkles. Often the same substance can be used to enlarge and enhance cheekbones and chin, plumping up lips and softening lip lines. Fillers are a quick fix. Although there is some difference between types and brands, they are mostly hyaluronic acid, mostly do their job, and mostly last approximately 6 -12 months.
Bottom line, if you are noticing that your face is changing, it may be time to schedule a consultation at our office to learn about surgical and non-surgical solutions.
